Changing Trends in Local Economy Noticed by Self Storage Firm

October 2009

Local Storage experts Nick and Andy Wood from Storage Boost in Crewe are noticing the trends in the local economy as people adapt to the changing housing market.

In 2007 there were on average just over one hundred thousand housemovers per month in the UK, in 2008 at the start of the recession this reduced to around fifty thousand per month. 2009 has seen house moves as low as twenty five thousand per month. These statistics show that although the economy is showing more prospects after two years of declining house prices, people are not moving at the same level and looking at other ways to adapt within the homes and space they have.

Nick Wood of Storage Boost says "with more difficult access to mortgages and the recent reduction in house prices, we have noticed many homeowners who would traditionally consider moving are now looking at staying in their current home and decluttering, or having an extension or in the case of young people, moving back home with parents".

One such person is David Lyons, who has recently rented his very own unit at Storage Boost to store his possessions.

"I've been looking for a new property for the last two years but with the recession I have put that on hold, Storage Boost has become the home for my possessions whilst the dust settles in the economy. I'm finally moving into a new home in the next month but will continue to use my Storage Boost unit to keep my house free of clutter".

Another is Jen Wise who originally used her storage unit during housing renovations and having been made redundant used it to set up her own e-bay business selling jewellery from Storage Boost. "My storage unit has proved to be a great way to get my business off the ground at little cost as I can not only store my stock but dispatch goods using their parcel point." Says Jen.
