Desktop Clutter

Un-clutter your desktop – have only items that relate to your current tasks on your desk.

Write It Down

Never rely on your memory. The best way to never forget an appointment or task is to write it down.

One Diary

Use a single diary. The biggest mistake people make is to keep a personal diary and a business diary. If you keep one then you don’t have to REMEMBER to keep looking at both.

Filing

Before you go out and buy new filing cabinets, purge your old ones and throw away or archive anything not relating to your current work.

Ask For Help

Realise that sometimes, whether because of time limitations or something else, you cannot always do everything yourself. Ask a colleague or give yourself achievable timescales.

Handling

Handle paper and mail only once. Ask yourself which things do not belong and decide immediately what to do with them.

Paperwork

Designate specific areas for paperwork. Create trays for bills to be paid & to do's etc. Simple category titles will make things a lot easier.

Thinking Space

Keep as little as possible on your desk to enhance your thinking. Essentials should be your computer, telephone, pens and everything else should be in drawers to facilitate.

Clear The Desk

Take time at the end of each day to clear your desk before leaving work. You'll start the next day in a much better frame of mind.

Stationery

Keep your stationery to hand but keep it away from your desk. Use your space more efficiently and that way you can keep track of what you need to order without doubling up, spending unnecessary money.
